Star Performer is a SIMBL plugin that allows you to mark windows to be ‘Star Performers’. These windows won’t throttle animation speeds when they’re in the background, unlike normal Safari windows. So, you can continue to iChat with sExyGRL92 while still watching Numa Numa in a background Safari window, without the usual unpleasant drop in framerate.
Once installed, hit Ctrl-Opt-S to mark a window for Star Performer (or use File -> Make Star Performer). While a window is marked as a star performer, it’s effectively removed from Safari’s Cmd-` list – you’ll have to select it with the mouse if you need it.
Star Performer windows always look like ‘key’ windows – the title bar appears in black, and there’s a thicker drop shadow behind them.
Note: Latest WebKit nightlies show that in the future, Safari will no longer throttle background video.
