Whither PicLens?

May 26, 03:27 pm

PicLens, once one of the reasons for choosing Safari over other browsers on the Mac, has seemingly left Safari on the outside looking in. When the immersive online image browsing plugin first arrived on the scene a couple years back, it was a Safari exclusive. Since then, not only has support for Firefox and IE7 been added, but development of the Safari version seems to have stopped altogether. A steady stream of betas for the next version of PicLens have appeared for FF/IE7 over the past several months, yet even the current version has not even been updated to work with Safari 3 on Leopard.

So, has PicLens forsaken Safari? Not according to the website, which claims: “We are working on a significant update that will add many new features, including the highly lauded 3D Wall enjoyed on our current Firefox version.” However, that notice has been there for awhile, and there has been no word since. As someone who does lots of online searching for photos to use in presentations and such, I’d love to see some Safari love. Only time will tell.
