Well done Safari!

Nov 1, 10:31 pm

With last nights 10.4.3 update, Safari now passes the Web Standards Project Acid2 Test. This is the first browser “publicly-released, non-beta, non-preview” to do this!

Other Safari changes are:

  • Improves compatibility of Safari with many webcams.
  • Improves the handling of Hebrew and Arabic text in Safari and Mail.
  • Improves compatibility for OpenGL-accelerated Macromedia Shockwave 3D webpage content when using Safari.

We’re still waiting to for a compatibility update* for Saft and SafariStand, but Acid Search and WebDevAdditions have both been updated.

  • (It may be that an update isn’t required, but a new version of these usually follows soon after a Safari update)

Update: Saft is now updated

  1. The new Safari is definitely looking sweet! I prefer Firefox on the PC, though. I just wish it were as fast as Safari on my iBook. Safari is SO fast.

  2. Defintely a bit faster than before. And congratulations Safari for passing Acid Test 2.

  3. Is this a pass? It’s better than any rendition I’ve seen, but the nose is slightly smaller in Safari than in the reference. But maybe that doesn’t count. Then again, the “Preview” below isn’t working either, so maybe it’s me that has the problem.

  4. still impossible to have more then 10 pages open at once…while using SAFT+SS

  5. I love that Safari can now pass the Acid2 test, but… now Safari will not give me any spelling hints when I click on a misspelled word and just the first time click on a link with my middle mouse button, spotlight search bar open up. Other than that I see no improvements, witch is sad if you think how long apple has been working on it.
