Pimp My Safari

Pimp my Blog

Feedback time!

Aug 16, 07:31 am

PimpMySafari has now been running for almost 5 months, and it’s high time to ask for some feedback on what you think about the site. One of the most common requests I get is to add OS compatibility information to the plugin posts – something that Panther users are very keen on. This is on my list.

Some of the things I have planned are:

  • A replacement Safari icon, with the yellow pithhelmet logo
  • More work on the design. I cobbled the site together quite quickly, but hope to get some time to improve it.
  • I’d love to get some black T-Shirts made of the logo – would anyone be interested?

So what would you like to see here? Would a discussion forum be useful? Let me know what’s on your mind…

Hi John. I only converted from the dark side a few months ago, and I’m only really just beginning to move away from FF to safari. There are so many things that make FF my own browser, and this site offers alternatives for safari which in all honesty are making the difference. Safari is a better browser for OSX, but only if it works for the individual. I’ve been reading and following links from here for a while, and Pimp My Safari is the first, and often, only place I look for this type of thing.

As for a forum. I’m not sure. Would it descend into a full on browser war flamepit?

Would I like a T-shirt, you bet I would, though you would need to supply shirts designed for the man who sits at his desk for 10 hours a day (you know what I’m saying right?)

Looking forward to seeing the site move forward John, keep up the good work. Is this the start of the ‘hicks network’ of websites? .lol.

Love the site, so many great things are listed here that I can’t find by myself. I wish it was updated more often as I check here daily. The RSS could use some updating as well.
Otherwise, this site is great and even though you may have thrown it together quickly, I have to say, it came out very nice. Very nice indeed.

OS compatibility would be a great feature on your site also.

I would consider this the equivalent of Firefox’s plugin webpage.

It’s very needed in the mac community and please keep up the excellent work.

I think a forum sounds like a good idea — moderation would probably keep flames at bay, and if you use Vanilla then there’s always the wonderful ‘douchebag’ feature.

Oh, and I can’t wait to see the icon!

How about a development section?

For whatever reason some of the Bookmarklets don’t work.

This is one of my favorites sites!!! Thank you. It’s beautiful, fast and updated. Unfortunately Safari add-ons are averaging 1 for every 3 days… I would like to see this site evolving into a Mac Gui customization Portal like www.macthemes.net or MacNN Forums – GUI Customization. I am sure that Jon will do a much better job in creating a stylish usable Gui portal.

BTW – MacThemes, which is the “leading” Mac Gui, is just embarrassing, it feels like a bad PC site.

wonderful site, making Safari a joy to use.

A beautifully designed site and helpful in the extreme to the average Safari user.

Also, because Hao doesn’t bother to tell users of his software when he issues an update, your site is usually the first to tell me that I can go and grab an updated version of Saft from his website!

#1 Stuart – No, there won’t be a Hicks network, empire building or a series of ‘PimpMy….’ browser sites! ;o) I barely have time to run this one!

#2 Alex – could you confirm what you mean by the rss needing updating? Do you mean there aren’t enough new blog posts, or new plugin posts? I can’t help the latter one – its all dependent on the developers!

# Peter – I’ve been considering Vanilla, but didn’t know about the douchebag thing!

#4 Martin – What do you mean by a ‘development section’

#6 ZX – so maybe a section on Safari theming?

John, If you want a hand with vanilla, give me a shout, I have one of my own – it’s very good.

development section: an introduction to SIMBL etc, links to and articles about the technologies involved.

This site is one of my favourite ones. As you know, I wrote this in a blog entry last month:

So keep on with the good work!

For some reason the RSS feed shows HTML tags for me. [p] and [li] signs and all. This seems to have happened after July 17th, but that could also be around the time I updated my Saft…

Is that what he meant about cleaning up the RSS feed? (I can’t seem to make real less-than signs or use the name code)

Jon, I just love this site. In fact, it was an inspiration for a project I’m working on for WordPress. We decided to call it in Pimpmywordpress, and we even bought pimpmywp.org, before being convinced by various females that even though ‘pimp’ does not have any derogatory meaning in this sense of the word, it carries a bad ‘reputation.’ So, we opted out of that. It’s great for a site like this, but it had the potential of going on wp.org and being exposed to its horde of thousands, and ‘pimp’ would be scandalous. Oh well. :-p

Anyways, this project is a directory of plugins and themes for wordpress, similar to this. The content organization here is really cool, we may be borrowing some ideas. I’ll keep you updated, if you like :)

Today I came across your site and the “look” is great, the information resources are good and in fact I’ll most likely will plug in some of your recommendations in the future – but the rear mark of a good web site is it’s “value” as a information resource for getting answers and solutions! So here goes…

I’m running a Power PC G4 “QuickSilver” 733 with 1.5GB of memory, OS X (10.3.9) / Safari 1.2 (v1.25) – that’s right I have never been able to load Safari 1.3 / Appleworks 6.2.9 / MenuCalendarClock (2.0.3) and my over all software package is up to date and current and I generally don’t step to far off of the beaten path.

When OS X (10.3.9) first hit the street as a update I downloaded it and all work will but Safari 3 would not load – so I end up reloading Safari 1.2. All of my java plug-in are current. I have repeated this process from time to time with no luck.

Yesterday Apple released Safari (1.3.1) – as a solution to those of us have problems with getting Safari 1.3 to work – will it was a bust! I must be the only guy left in the world who has not been able to experience Safari 1.3

The common result of having loaded Safari 1.3 and Safari 1.3.1 is a balancing “Safari” icon followed by nothing – that it – I can’t even open Safari 3 after restart my mac.

Q – HELP – PLEASE HELP – I’m at a lost and slowly going nuts

Love the site. Well set out and full of usefull info and apps/addons.
I’m not so sure a forum would be a good idea as after running my own in the past they really do eat up time and without strong moderators can descend into anarchy quickly (may of just been mine though).
T-Shirt would be nice.
The RSS feed shows html tags when I view it too but then again it does that on my Movable Type powered blog and I can’t fix it there hehe.

Overall great site!
